my OTTB is a rather picky eater, and recently lost almost enough weight to be hospitalized. I went to my local feed store and bought a 50 pound bag of "Prime 12" grain, which was designed to help horses gain or maintain weight. He is fed 3 pounds a day (1.5 pounds twice a day) The brand of grain has escaped me, but I'll look at it tomorrow and be sure to let you know! It worked WONDERS in helping my OTTB gain his weight back, without making him fat, or hot like some grains do, and now it is part of his regular diet. Also, mixing Prime 12 in 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of corn oil will give your mare an additional boost into gaining weight. good luck! :]
