How do I handle a (new) male Chow Chow?
Viper's just new, about a day old with the family, (I think he's about 5 months old already) and he's so aloof, so reserved, and so wary of us. He doesn't bark (which actually scares me). He just gives the look--like who-are-you-don't-go-near-me-or-touch-me look-- and is such a snob. I actually go up to him to give him food and water, then extend my hand and wait for him to sniff it, but he doesn't come to me. He's so cute, yes, his hair is so soft and furry, but when I tried to rub his back softly, he's kind of sensitive, he retreats. Then I tried to rub rub him, and he retaliated with a bark and a bite (had I not pulled my arm back quickly)! Please help, how should I treat him to acknowledge me as his new master/owner and how do I read the look he's giving me? Now I can't approach him, really.
