Pianists advice on learning new pieces?

I recently bought a chopin preludes book and rachmaninoff preludes book. I was wondering if its a good idea to concentrate on learning most of them for good sight reading practice or if i should work on a couple i like. Also is it a good idea to learn lots of pieces even if your not fond of them
