Question on Diabetes?

So apparently I have type 1 diabetes. The symptoms have been getting steadily worse in the last few days and now they're becoming boarderline unbearable. I've booked a doctors appointment but it's a bank holiday and I'll be wiating 3 days... I've been advised to go to E.R. Is that really necessary?
