Why is there so much haze and fog in Los Angeles?

It's called smog. Because LA is so spread out, it's a city full of cars and commuting (hence some of the worst traffic in the country). All of the exhaust from the cars, combined with the hot sun, creates the amber hazy fog (smog) that you see in the sky.
