I'm interested in cultured foods and molecular gastronomy (such as making the perfect egg at 65C) and would like to have the ability to "tune" the temperature of a crock or some other device to work with some of these foods . . . to incubate yogurt, make cheese, homemade soda, etc. These require temperatures lower than a regular crockpot. I read somewhere about installing a dimmer switch in line with a crock pot, so that's one possibility, but I would have to cut the cord and do some wiring, which I'd rather not risk. Is there any other relatively cheap way to achieve the same thing, or some not terribly expensive product I can get to help with this? I want to be able to turn a knob, say, like on the stove, and be able to set it to whatever temperature I want. Any bright ideas?

Damn dude...I The same thing kinda happened to me last year. Me and my girlfriend were going out last year for like 10 months, and we were in love. How do I deal with my brother's stupid girlfriend?

She drives me NUTS. She just goes into my room and borrows things and doesn't even ask. quite often i'll read questions, presumably from believers, asking atheists if they believe in atheists. my guess is that this is an attempt to get atheists to admit that believe in the irrational as well, since nobody has ever seen an alien. furthermore, i imagine this is an attempt to lump atheists in the same group of people who believe in alien abductions, thus making them unreliable. so my question to believers is this. when you ask atheists about whether they believe in aliens or not, do you find that our answers are not as far-fetched as you'd like them to be? indeed, if anyone came out and said they believe aliens exist without any evidence, i could see where you guys are coming from. but, from what i've read, the majority of atheists, if not all, say something to the effect of them believing in the possibility that aliens might exists. yet for some reason this is viewed by believers as being just as illogical as believing in aliens. why is that?

White/clear gooey buildup in eye?

I've had contacts for 7 years now and I don't take my contacts out very often. I leave them in over night and only take them out to change them or to clean them if they appear slightly blurry from bacteria buildup. My question, however, is why do I get white to clearish buildup under my eye lids? I can feel them and I take them out by dabbing the backside of my finger slightly under my eye lid. They appear like a string of white goo when it retracts onto my finger. It has no smell but it is irritating because I can feel them and it only stops bothering me when I finally get them out. I'm pretty sure it only comes after sleeping.

Yes this is normal for formula fed babies. Most formula fed babies have tummy issues, but usually they are overlooked because formula is such a big money maker in our society. What you have to realize is it is not a natural thing for baby to eat. With formula it really is hit or miss. When I worked for WIC it was very common for moms to have to come in to get their formula switched, sometimes 2 or 3 times until they found one that baby could tolerate. Not do well on, but tolerate. There really is not much you can do except for trying other brands.

Why does Ares slow down the internet connection on other computers in my home network?

When my girlfirend runs ARES on her laptop, my PC's internet connection dramatically slows down. She is connected wirelessly to the router and I am connected by a lan line(CAT5). We have Road Runner high speed internet. She is only downloading like 3 or 4 sonags at a go, so I can't for the life of me figure out why that would dramatically effect my connection. Ironically, I am positive that this is the case because the second she completely exits ARES or her downloads complete, my connection works normally again. Do Whitening Strips leave spots on your teeth?

I used the Walmart brand of whitening strips a while back, but a few days after I started, I stopped using them because when I took them off, I would see bright white splotches on my top front teeth. The other night I was blazed watching national geographic, and this episode about ants come on. It was one of the most astonishing things I have ever seen. Now I have this new insight on life that just sticks with me. We are the smartest being on earth, yet we are failing the most! We humans are so smart, and yet , we are so dumb in the fact that we can't realize how perfect nature. They don't care about the environment. Only yourself can change things. I might not be much, but if more people had this insight I had than the word would spread like wildfire. I cut mine a little longer than necessary. Then I use a rotary cutter and mat to remove the excess in a straight line. Also, if you are getting bulging it may be due to stretching of the fabric. As you are sewing, the part not being stitched should either be folded behind the machine on the table, or folded in your lap in an accordion shape. This way it is not hanging down which can stretch out your fabric making the quilt bulge or curve, or putting stress on the thread possibly causing it to break. I am not being a smart aleck when I suggest this, Go to your local library and look up quilting. There are tons of books with useful tips on all sorts of techniques. I love the Singer book on machine quilting! Also, Yahoo! has a chat room called textiles which is sewing and other fabric crafts. The folks in there can often be very helpful with questions. Good luck!!!

Well, I'm sorry for your loss. Just keep the lord on your side and pray for something great to happen that will turn your life around. If you wouldn't have said that you and her have to stay and touch my first thought to turn around your life is to end contact with her. I know this is not what you want to do, but honestly it is the best idea. Contact will just make you think more and more about her, and that wouldn't be helping your situation. Get a girlfriend and some buddies and start hanging out often, try to forget her in all and focus on the road in front of you, not the past. I know you said you didn't want to do these things, but this is the best way. If you absolutely must stay in contact with her, make them quick conversations. You do not need a deep conversation with an ex like that it will tear your heart into even more pieces. Like I said earlier just try to focus on the future and forget about the past. I know you loved her and you always will, but if she has found a significant other then in my mind that will be the only way to move on. I went to my local feed store and bought a 50 pound bag of "Prime 12" grain, which was designed to help horses gain or maintain weight. He is fed 3 pounds a day (1.5 pounds twice a day) The brand of grain has escaped me, but I'll look at it tomorrow and be sure to let you know! the whole idea of a crock pot is that you throw everything in , turn it on and walk away. all this sauteing,transferring, and adding back, kind of defeats of purpose. the thing i would do is just brown the chicken first for about 5 mins (or until golden brown), then add ALL of the other ingredients, set the timer to high for about 4-6 hours, or low for 8-10 hrs.

Should religious groups who give aid to people after natural disasters be allowed to promote their religion?

Don’t misunderstand me here, I’m not saying religious groups should be banned from giving aid to people, but don’t you see something really unethical in these religious groups using the opportunity to promote their religion? Take those slimy Mormons for example; this is a very wealthy religious organization and they seem to wait with gleeful anticipation for natural disasters just like the recent one in Haiti so they can go there and put on a public display of how charitable Mormons are. And you can safely bet the Mormon aid workers wear T-shirts and hats and other labels like this promoting their ridiculous religion which is based on the lies of renowned fraudster and is run more like a sinister cult than a religion. Am I being too cynical here or does anyone else see this as severely unethical exploitation that should immediately be stopped?

Best thing to do for a dog who has smelly breath and yellow plaque on their teeth would be to take them to you're local vet for a dental. They are recommended once every 6 months to a year just like humans. Is the kangaroo and veggies diet helping with weight? This could be a contributing factor to the bad breath and tooth decay. Usually a good high fiber and low fat diet are ideal for over weight animals and of course healthy exercise. Brushing their teeth is an awesome idea and it's even better if they allow you to do it. Dental chews are also a good idea. But after all best advice I can give is 1) change of diet 2) Dental cleaning 3) Healthy exercise 4) NO canned food what so ever. (this food is too easily stuck to teeth and gums causing decay) and for continuing dental health hard crunchy food and once a week brushing. Hope this was helpful!

Stray cat found dead on the side of the road and Im very saddened over the tragedy?

Im a huge animal lover and have a very soft spots for unfortunate stray and feral cats. I sincerely believe in TNR (trap neuter release) of feral cats and am a strong advocate for the practice. There are 5 feral cats that have all been TNRrd that i been care-taking for probably a good two years now. Within the past month this new intact male feral cat had been coming around and eating the food I provide for these feral cats. Long story short, i was ready to trap this cat and have him fixed so he would stop chasing the other fixed cats. Sadly to say, when i came home from work, i saw him 3 blocks from my house on the side of the road dead. I feel so sorry, and keep beating myself up over its death. I keep thinking that if i trapped it in time, in wouldn't roamed so far into a busy road. My neighbors say that i do so much for the other cats, and that i cant save them all, but why am I still so overridden with guilt. Anybody have some advice?

I haven't really read up on the criticisms of the Electoral College in awhile, so i am not sure if this is a common complaint but wouldn't that system encourage presidents to spend more of the federal budget on projects and whatnot in swing states as opposed to states that are not in contention during elections? For example, wouldn't a president be tempted to send more federal money to Flordia, Ohio, and Missouri, in order to get on those citizens' good side, as opposed to Utah and California, which are unlikely to be in play?

What to do with unsure friends?

So I have this friend, and we have been good friends for about 7-8 years, and it seems we have had both our good and bad times. I don't know if this is, or isn't normal, but I bought a Sony VAIO laptop about a week ago (Windows 7, Core i5, 4G Ram, 64 Bit) and it works beautifully. However, when I turn on my laptop, and the little windows jingle plays, the computer screen stay black for about 4-5 second before anything else appearing. Also, when I turn off the computer, the screen turns black for about 2 seconds then reappears and turns off. Is this a normal thing for laptops to do?

Well my grandfather (papa gene) died in march of 2008. Can exercise effect a healing repositioned tooth?

This might be a stupid question but I was wondering if exercising effects the result of a healing repositioned tooth? The exercise im talking about is weight lifting, cardio, and kickboxing (pads and bag work only, no punches or kicks to the face). What do you mean get her out in time? Has the vet said it's not a medical condition? What are things she does to show she needs to use the bathroom? Have you tried crate training? When you aren't home, keep her in a crate. The crate is her retreat, and should never be used as punishment. Keep it somewhere quiet and draft free so she can go there if she's tired. Confine her for a little while and then longer to get her used to it, and don't force, work at her pace. This should help with chewing too, but so should mental stimulation like training and some more exercise.
